Functional fitness is working out to strengthen the muscles that you use on a day to day basis to complete everyday tasks. This means maybe working out your arms to better carry groceries, or work on leg strength to better use the stairs in your home. By doing functional fitness exercises you can significantly improve your day to day life. It will allow you to do what you love most, and to participate in many different activities for years to come.

Here are 9 functional fitness exercises that you can do to stay fit!

1. Lunges
2. Squats
3. Burpees
4. Shoulder press
5. Stairs/stairmaster
6. Chin ups/pull ups
7. Push ups
8. Kettlebell Swings
9. Sit ups/crunches

When doing these exercises it is a good idea to limit yourself to 3 sets of 10 reps. You can mix and match several different exercises to make the most personalized workouts possible. The personalization of your workout should be based on what you need, and what you love to do. If you LOVE baking, then doing back workouts would be great, because you are on your feet a lot, and bending over for the oven a lot as well.

It is also a good idea to do your workout in the morning. This will get your blood pumping, your metabolism engaged, give you more energy throughout the day and help with day-long calorie burning.
