Habits that Destroy an Otherwise Healthy Lifestyle

Have you ever heard the saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day?” Well the same concept applies to your health. You know just as well as most people how hard it is to regain and maintain your health. It takes time, effort, commitment and persistence, all traits that can be difficult to employ in certain situations.

Habit is really what makes or breaks your health and your lifestyle. If you have goods habits, you can live a good and healthy lifestyle. If you have a lot of bad habits, you will notice a decline in lifestyle quality. That being said, here are four bad habits that are destroying your otherwise healthy lifestyle.

1. Having unhealthy snacks in your house

By having a box of cookies, or a bag of chips laying around your house, you are destroying your healthy lifestyle. It may have been a long day at work, and you come home with an empty stomach. If there is a box of cookies most people would probably dig into that first, because it’s quick, it’s easy and you might be craving sugar. In order to break this habit, the best thing that you can do is not buy these foods. Of course this is easier said than done, but one of the things that you can do is eat before you go shopping. Have an alkagizer or a salad before you go shopping. This will fill your stomach up so that sugar cravings don’t hit you as hard or at all.

2. Taking the elevator as opposed to the stairs

This may seem inconvenient and daunting, especially if you live on the 20th floor, but taking the stairs can make a HUGE difference in your personal health. You can decrease your chance of heart attacks, increase cardiovascular health and feel stronger by taking the stairs everyday. You can also save a ton of time, because you will never have to wait for an elevator again, or be crammed in there with your sweaty neighbour who only showers once a week.

3. Not drinking enough water

Humans need water to survive, as we are made up of over 60% H2O. With this in mind, it is hard to imagine why people think it is not necessary to drink more water! Drinking a lot of water will help cleanse your body, help clear your complexion, keeping you energized and allow your muscles and joints to work better. The average adult should be drinking around 13 cups of water on a daily basis.

4. Not Eating When You’re Hungry

The feeling of hunger is your body communicating to you that you need food or water. The key is here eating the right foods when you’re hungry. If you are hungry, DO NOT stop yourself from eating, but eat foods that are good for you. Have a bag of veggies on hand, or a piece or two of fruit. If you have cookies or chocolates on hand for when you are hungry, all you will do is hurt your body. Give your body the nutrients it needs and deserves by feeding healthy foods it when you are hungry.
