During this WildFit journey, your mind plays an important role in how you revolutionize your relationship with food. Your mind is a powerful tool and crucial to your wellness journey. Meditation is another way we can use our minds to promote more wellness in our lives. Meditation is a practice where through training the mind, you can initiate certain states of consciousness that can have profound effects on your health.
Meditation has incredible health benefits
In addition to feeling sooo relaxing, meditation has been shown to help with a wide range of health concerns. There are some pretty awesome benefits to taking some time and letting your mind go into different states of consciousness. Since most of what the human brain actually does is still a mystery to even scientists, there’s no way to know the full power of giving your brain a little love when you meditate.
That being said, some of proven benefits of meditation include:
- Lowered blood pressure
- Boosted immune system
- Decreased stress
- Improved memory
- Can help with anxiety and depression symptoms
- Can help with developing closer relationships with loved ones
How to get started
Meditation is basically this: sit, close your eyes, breathe, and relax. A good method to follow for this kind of meditation is to just bring awareness to your breath. Each time you breathe, think about how it enters your body… and how it leaves. You need to be intentional about this – bring deep awareness to how each breath feels in each part of your body. Visualize how the breath fills your body and visualize seeing it leave your body- like on a cold day. Be in this state for a period of time that feels rights- and you got it, you guru.
If you can’t quiet your brain that easily, it may be a good idea to try a guided meditation. There are so many amazing guided meditations out there to really get you in the zone. You can search on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Music and find great resources to guide your meditation practice. There are also a few amazing apps such as Headspace, which has free and paid options. These guided meditations are such great resources for getting you firmly in the right mindset to have a great meditation, so browse around and try a few out to see what works for you!
Also if sitting doesn’t work for you – try doing a mindful walk in nature. Feel your weight shift with each step you take. Feel how your body feels in the ground. Bring awareness to what you heat, smell, and feel. Do this intentionally to make your mind engage with all its surroundings. While you walk, use the beauty in nature as a cue to let go and allow your mind to reach a deep state of relaxation.
